Ghanaian actor Samuel Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari, known popularly as Koo Ofori, was granted bail Monday by the Dansoman District Court following allegations that he defrauded a U.S.-based Ghanaian investor of $50,000.

Mr. Ofori, recognized for his role in the long-running Ghanaian television series “Efiewura,” is accused of failing to deliver on an investment agreement after receiving the funds. The complainant, who resides in California, reported the matter to authorities after multiple attempts to recover the money allegedly proved unsuccessful.

Police investigations indicated that Mr. Ofori not only defaulted on the repayment but also failed to respond to a court summons issued for April 17. A bench warrant was subsequently issued, leading to his arrest by the Accra Central Police on May 9. A video of the arrest was widely circulated on social media platforms.

At his court appearance on May 12, the court granted bail set at GHC 320,000 (approximately $22,000), with the condition that Mr. Ofori provide three credible sureties to guarantee future appearances. He remains subject to ongoing legal proceedings.

A trial date has not yet been publicly announced.
