Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra has temporarily suspended the acceptance of fresh bodies and Brought-in-Dead (BID) cases as it undertakes a six-week refurbishment of its cold room facilities.

In a statement issued on 3 February 2025, the hospital management explained that the move was necessary to enhance service delivery. “We regret to announce that we will be unable to accept fresh bodies or BID cases during this period,” the statement said.

However, the restriction does not apply to cases originating from Korle Bu Teaching Hospital itself.

The hospital has urged families with deceased relatives who have been in the mortuary for three to six weeks or longer to make arrangements for burial or transfer to alternative facilities.

The refurbishment, which is expected to be completed within six weeks, is part of efforts to improve the hospital’s services. The hospital expressed apologies for any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their cooperation during this period.
