The incumbent Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, KT Hammond, has refused to concede defeat in the 2024 general election, despite results showing he lost to National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani.
Hammond, who has represented the constituency since 2001, secured 13,275 votes in the December 7 polls, while Dorani won with 14,229 votes. However, the veteran politician has demanded a recount, citing alleged discrepancies in the pink sheets issued by the Electoral Commission (EC) and claims of “snatched” ballot boxes.
Speaking to Joy News on December 9, Hammond firmly stated, “No, I will not concede,” when asked if he was ready to accept the result. His refusal to concede follows the loss of several prominent NPP figures, including Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Interior Minister Henry Quartey, and Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson, who all lost their seats to NDC candidates.
The Electoral Commission is yet to declare the final results for the presidential election.
