Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on Ghanaians to ensure a peaceful and violence-free general election in 2024, emphasising the importance of respecting the outcome of the polls.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday, 17 November, Mr Kufuor stressed the need for calm during the electoral process, highlighting that the nation’s democratic stability depends on unity and acceptance of results.

“It is essential for everyone to line up calmly to exercise their voting rights on election day. Electoral violence is unacceptable, and I hope for a peaceful election process,” he said.

He added that the power ultimately rests with the people and urged all stakeholders to prioritise national peace over personal preferences.

“We must acknowledge that genuine power resides with the populace, and it is crucial to accept the results, regardless of personal preferences,” Mr Kufuor stated.

Ghana heads to the polls on 7 December, with the main contenders being Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and John Dramani Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
