President John Dramani Mahama has called on African nations to take advantage of shifting global economic trends, urging a break from traditional trade practices in favour of industrialisation and entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the Kwahu Business Forum on Saturday, Mr Mahama said the continent must act decisively to secure its place in a rapidly changing world.

“The world is changing, and new opportunities are being thrown up. We, as a country, must take advantage of those opportunities,” he told attendees.

He pointed to ongoing trade disputes among global powers as a sign of changing production patterns, suggesting that these shifts offer Africa a unique opportunity to strengthen its economic position.

Reflecting on Africa’s past, Mr Mahama noted the continent’s failure to fully benefit from previous global transitions, such as the Cold War and the globalisation era. However, he expressed optimism that the current geopolitical climate could be different—if African nations are willing to act.

He encouraged greater investment in sectors like agribusiness, digital innovation, and commercial farming, saying, “We can be anything that we want.”

The Kwahu Business Forum has become a key event on Ghana’s economic calendar, bringing together government officials, business leaders, and investors to explore pathways for development and private sector growth across the continent.
