Linda Ocloo, the newly appointed Greater Accra Regional Minister, has outlined security and sanitation as the primary areas of focus for the capital city’s development. In her first meeting with the management of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council on February 3, 2025, Ocloo presented her vision for the region, emphasizing key initiatives aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure and services.

Among her key proposals is the reintroduction of the Regional Sanitation Day and the introduction of an award scheme to recognize the cleanest city in the region. These initiatives are part of her broader effort to tackle the growing sanitation challenges facing the capital.

In addition to improving sanitation, Ocloo highlighted a commitment to bolstering security in the region, with plans to strengthen the local governance framework. Under the government’s “Resetting Agenda,” she pledged to support municipal and district assemblies in becoming self-sustaining, with an emphasis on improving local revenue generation.

Ocloo also expressed her intent to collaborate with traditional authorities and religious organizations to further decentralize power and promote participatory governance. She emphasized the importance of empowering local government structures such as MMDCEs and district assemblies to drive sustainable development at the grassroots level.

The Minister’s approach reflects a strong focus on both local autonomy and improved urban living conditions, positioning her administration to address critical needs in Accra.
