President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that a total of $1.7 billion is required to complete the unfinished Agenda 111 healthcare projects, launched by the previous administration. Mahama, addressing the issue during a meeting with the Christian Council, disclosed that nearly 90 of the hospitals under the initiative remain incomplete.
“The previous government started Agenda 111 but failed to finish the hospitals. Many are still unfinished, and even some that were commissioned lack basic facilities, such as beds,” Mahama said.
He stressed the need for significant financial resources to complete the projects, which were intended to improve healthcare infrastructure across the country.
Mr. Mahama also suggested that religious organizations could play a role in addressing the delays, proposing a partnership where mission hospitals could complete and manage some of the unfinished facilities. “Rather than building new hospitals in areas where missions already operate, we could focus on improving those existing facilities, ensuring they can meet the healthcare needs of local communities,” he explained.
Assuring the public that the government is committed to fulfilling the Agenda 111 vision, Mahama emphasized that all projects will eventually be completed to enhance the country’s healthcare system.
