Former Ghanaian President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo, alleging that his administration is neglecting communities due to political bias.
In a recent Facebook post following a tour of 14 constituencies in Ghana’s Central Region, Mahama expressed frustration over what he described as a “petty partisan” approach by Akufo-Addo, accusing him of prioritising areas aligned with his New Patriotic Party (NPP) over others. Mahama claimed that communities that supported the NDC have seen limited development and poor access to infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other essential services.
“It pains me to see our cherished communities grappling with the neglect of crucial development projects vital for their growth and well-being,” Mahama said, adding that government should not ignore any region based on its political choices.
During his tour, Mahama said he listened to the concerns of chiefs and residents who expressed disappointment over stalled or incomplete development projects. He criticised the government’s approach, saying it harms citizens’ well-being and undermines democratic principles.
“Every citizen, regardless of their political allegiance, deserves to have their voices heard and their needs addressed,” he remarked, calling on the government to adopt a fairer, more inclusive approach to governance.
Mahama argued that state resources should be allocated equitably to benefit all Ghanaians, regardless of political preference, urging the Akufo-Addo administration to act justly and avoid what he called “partisan punishment.”
