President-elect John Dramani Mahama met with outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on December 11 at the Jubilee House in Accra to inaugurate the 2024 National Transition Team. This meeting marks a significant step in Ghana’s democratic process as the country prepares for a peaceful transfer of power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The National Transition Team is a constitutional body tasked with overseeing the handover process. It will play a crucial role in briefing the incoming government on key state matters, ensuring access to essential government data, and coordinating the formal inauguration of the President-elect.

This meeting highlights Ghana’s commitment to democratic governance, where outgoing and incoming administrations work together to facilitate a smooth transition.

During the event, President-elect Mahama emphasized his dedication to unity and stability as the NDC prepares to take office. “Mr. President has given me a brief on the security situation, both internal and external, as well as on economic issues. The transitional teams will delve deeper into these matters, and we will collaborate in the interest of Ghana to ensure a seamless transition,” he stated.

Outgoing President Akufo-Addo echoed these sentiments, underscoring the importance of continuity and cooperation. “I assure him [John Dramani Mahama] of my full support and that of my government throughout the transitional process to ensure that his administration begins in the best possible condition,” he said.
