President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), replacing Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, according to an official statement from the Presidency.

The announcement, made on Thursday, March 13, 2025, comes after consultation with the Council of State, and is in line with Articles 91 and 202 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

COP Yohunu, who brings over four decades of policing experience, will lead the Ghana Police Service during a time of ongoing reforms aimed at modernizing the institution. His appointment signals a renewed focus on enhancing the country’s security infrastructure.

The statement, issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, highlighted Yohunu’s extensive experience and leadership capabilities as key factors in his selection.
