Mahama Appoints Dr. Randy Abbey as Acting CEO of COCOBOD

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), effective immediately.

The appointment was confirmed in a letter dated January 21, 2025, in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 12(2) of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 1984 (P.N.D.C.L. 81).

In the official communication, signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, it was noted that Dr. Abbey’s appointment would remain in place pending consultation and advice from the COCOBOD Board and the Public Services Commission.

President Mahama expressed his confidence in Dr. Abbey’s leadership capabilities and wished him success in steering the board, which is crucial to the cocoa industry’s role in Ghana’s agricultural and economic development.

Dr. Abbey’s appointment is expected to bring renewed focus and strategic direction to COCOBOD, which is vital for sustaining the livelihoods of millions of cocoa farmers and contributing to national revenue.
