President John Dramani Mahama has urged Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Minister-designate for the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, to prioritize compensation for the families of those killed during the 2020 and 2024 general elections once he assumes office.

During a special National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving service at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, 2025, President Mahama acknowledged the tragic loss of life during both elections. He also reiterated his directive to the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to ensure thorough investigations and the prosecution of those responsible for the deaths.

“We would also ask the Attorney General, when he takes office, to determine a fair and adequate compensation for the families of those who have lost their lives,” President Mahama said.

Dr. Ayine, along with two other ministerial nominees, is scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee for vetting on January 13, 2025.
