President John Dramani Mahama has nominated four Members of Parliament to serve as deputy ministers, in what appears to be the final round of appointments to his streamlined cabinet.
In a formal communication to Parliament on Tuesday, Mahama submitted the names of the lawmakers under Article 78(1) and Article 79(1) of Ghana’s Constitution, which govern ministerial appointments. The nominations were confirmed by the Minister in Charge of Government Communication, Kwarkye Ofosu.

The nominees include Dorcas Affo-Toffey (MP) for Deputy Minister of Transport; James Gyakye Quayson (MP) for Foreign Affairs; Mohammed Adam Sukparu (MP) for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation; and Grace Ayensu-Danquah (MP) for Health.
The four appointees will appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting in the coming days.
Their selection brings the total number of ministers and deputy ministers in the Mahama administration to 60—fulfilling a campaign pledge to run one of Ghana’s most compact cabinets in the Fourth Republic. Of the 60, 56 have already been approved and are serving in their respective roles.
Mahama’s latest nominations further underline his administration’s effort to project fiscal discipline and governmental efficiency, amid ongoing efforts to stabilize Ghana’s post-pandemic economy and pursue long-term development goals through the newly inaugurated National Development Planning Commission.
