President John Dramani Mahama has nominated 15 individuals for diplomatic postings, tapping a mix of political loyalists, technocrats, and public figures in the first wave of foreign service appointments since returning to office in January.
The nominations, outlined in a letter dated June 10 to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and vetted in consultation with the Council of State, mark the first reshuffle of Ghana’s diplomatic corps under Mahama’s new administration.
Among the most prominent picks is veteran actress Kalsoume Sinare, who has been nominated as Ghana’s ambassador to Spain. Sinare, a well-known figure in Ghana’s creative arts sector, represents a push by the Mahama administration to diversify the face of Ghana’s diplomatic presence with figures outside traditional political or civil service pipelines.
Also named is Nii Amasah Namoale, a former Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, who is slated to become Ghana’s ambassador to Brazil. A longtime party operative with a reputation for strong grassroots engagement, Namoale is expected to bolster ties with Latin America’s largest economy.
Former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu is poised to head Ghana’s mission in Beijing, a significant diplomatic station given China’s expanding economic footprint in Africa. His appointment underscores Accra’s continued prioritization of Sino-Ghanaian relations.
Other key appointees include:
- Benjamin A. Quashie – Ambassador to South Africa
- Hammed Rashid Tunde Ali – Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates
- Grace El Mahmoud Marabe – Consul-General in Dubai
- Prof. Ohene Adjei – Ambassador to Germany
- Abdul Nasiru-Deen – Ambassador to Turkey
- Theresah Adjei-Mensah – Ambassador to the Czech Republic
- Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso – Ambassador to India
- Dr. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh – High Commissioner to Canada
- Dr. Margaret Miewien Chebere – Ambassador to Austria
- Labik Joseph Yaani – Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea
- Captain George Kofi Nojoh – Ambassador to Togo
- Dr. Felix Kumah Godwin Anebo – Ambassador to Senegal
The selections reflect Mahama’s effort to blend political loyalty with professional experience, as Ghana recalibrates its foreign policy priorities amid shifting global dynamics. Several of the appointees, including academics and former public sector leaders, are expected to lend technical and institutional depth to Ghana’s external engagements.
All nominees await parliamentary approval before assuming their posts.
