President John Mahama has reiterated his firm position on gender and marriage, affirming that he believes only two genders exist: man and woman.

Speaking to the clergy on Friday, February 28, Mahama emphasized that his views are rooted in his Christian faith, which shapes his perspective on family structure and marriage.

“As a Christian, I uphold the principle that only two genders exist, a man and a woman, and that marriage is between a man and a woman,” Mahama stated, reinforcing his opposition to same-sex relationships amid ongoing debates over gender identity and marriage equality.

President Mahama also addressed the Ghanaian government’s stance on the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, a controversial piece of legislation designed to uphold traditional family values. The bill, which expired at the end of the last parliamentary session, is expected to be reintroduced.

“I’ve spoken with the Speaker of Parliament about renewing the bill, and I hope it will be brought forward by the government rather than as a private member’s motion,” Mahama said, signaling the administration’s commitment to pushing the bill through the legislative process.
