Mahama orders immediate investigation into ORAL report

President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, to launch an immediate investigation into allegations of corruption highlighted by the ‘Operation Recover All Loots’ (ORAL) committee.

The directive follows the submission of a detailed report on suspected financial malfeasance and the misappropriation of public resources, uncovered by the ORAL initiative.

Receiving the report on Monday, 10 February, President Mahama stated: “I have promptly handed over the report to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, with firm instructions to begin investigations into the reported cases.” He further called for legal action against those found guilty of corruption or related offenses.

In his address, Mahama warned individuals who believe they can deceive the state without consequence, asserting that Ghana will no longer tolerate corruption. “To those who stand for integrity, accountability, and the rule of law, this government remains your steadfast partner in building a nation where honesty and hard work are rewarded,” he added.

The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring public resources are used for the benefit of the people. He stressed that misappropriation of public funds undermines development, erodes trust, and exacerbates inequality.

In commending the ORAL team for their dedication and thoroughness, Mahama noted that their work was carried out without compensation, reflecting the government’s resolve to promote accountability and good governance. He highlighted the scale of the financial misconduct revealed in the report, stating that the misallocated resources could have been used for critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Despite the troubling findings, the President expressed optimism that through collective efforts, Ghana could reclaim lost assets and prevent future corruption. He assured Ghanaians that the report’s recommendations would be carefully reviewed and that any necessary legal actions would be taken.

“The recovery of every resource will be reinvested into national development,” Mahama affirmed. “We will continue to strengthen mechanisms to prevent such losses in the future.”
