President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to add an extra holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, as part of his ongoing commitment to the Muslim community and to acknowledge their contributions to Ghana’s development.

Speaking at the National Prayers and Thanksgiving service at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, 2025, Mahama confirmed plans to amend the Holidays Act to allow two days of celebration for Eid-ul-Fitr.

“We promised to add an extra holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, and once Parliament is in session, we will amend the Holidays Act to make it official,” Mahama said. “So, after Ramadan this year, Muslims will enjoy two days of holiday to mark the occasion.”

The pledge is part of Mahama’s broader effort to fulfil campaign promises and strengthen ties with the Muslim community.
