John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has unveiled plans to establish a state-of-the-art Farmers’ Service Center in Ejura to boost agricultural productivity in the Ejura-Sekyeredumasi Constituency.
Addressing a campaign rally on the first day of his six-day tour of the Ashanti Region, Mahama outlined a series of initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and traders in the area, which is predominantly agricultural. He pledged to introduce a fair measurement system for grain and cereal sales, ensuring greater equity in the market.
“We will establish a Farmers’ Service Centre in Ejura, where 15 tractors and other farming equipment will be available for use. Farmers will be able to register for tractors and access fertilizers and other essential inputs at the centre,” Mahama said.
Additionally, Mahama revealed plans to construct a modern market to enhance trade in the constituency, which is one of the four NDC-held constituencies in the Ashanti Region.
In a bid to empower women entrepreneurs, Mahama also announced that a branch of the Women’s Development Bank would be set up in Ejura, providing financial support to women traders.
The former president further promised that an NDC government would grant two public holidays for Muslims during Eid-ul-Fitr, doubling the current one-day allowance.
Mahama also assured the completion of the Agenda 111 hospital project, initiated by the current government, if the NDC returns to power.
In closing, he urged constituents to vote in unity for both the NDC presidential and parliamentary candidates, stressing that the success of the party depends on a coordinated approach.
“I encourage you not to vote for ‘skirt and blouse’,” Mahama said. “We need a strong, united ticket to bring change to this country.”
The NDC flagbearer also committed to establishing another Farmers’ Service Center in Wiomoase, Afigya Sekyere East, as part of efforts to revitalize farming in the region and attract investment to boost local industry.
