President John Dramani Mahama is set to chair a special cabinet meeting today, Friday, March 7, to discuss Ghana’s 2025 budget, as announced by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu. In a Facebook post, Kwakye Ofosu revealed that a press briefing will follow the session to update the public on the outcomes and any developments from the week.
Ahead of the meeting, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson shared a message on social media, highlighting the significance of the upcoming budget. “With just five days to the presentation of Budget 2025 on Tuesday, March 11th, anticipation is building,” Forson wrote on his X page. “This budget is about shaping a stronger future for all—let’s talk about what matters most to you!” Forson is expected to present his first budget to Parliament next Tuesday.
The budget is anticipated to outline a comprehensive economic plan and introduce key policy proposals aimed at reshaping Ghana’s economy in alignment with Mahama’s vision of national transformation. It is expected to address the country’s current economic challenges while laying the groundwork for a more resilient future.
At an earlier briefing,Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also noted that the policies in the budget would be shaped by recommendations from the National Economic Dialogue, scheduled for March 3-4, 2025. Additionally, Gossie Tandoh, the Presidential Advisor on the 24-hour Economy, is leading efforts to roll out Mahama’s key economic transformation agenda.
“The economic situation is dire, and the figures are even worse than what we had known before the elections,” Kwakye Ofosu revealed, referring to discussions within the Cabinet. As the government prepares to present its fiscal roadmap, all eyes will be on the upcoming budget for insights into how it plans to tackle the country’s economic challenges.
