President John Dramani Mahama has issued a firm warning to Muslim youth, urging them to refrain from reckless motorcycle riding and driving during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

Speaking at an event hosted by the National Chief Imam at Accra’s Black Star Square, Mr. Mahama stressed the importance of safety and responsibility during the holiday.

“Eid is a time for unity and joy, not for actions that risk lives,” President Mahama remarked, adding, “Ramadan is a period for togetherness, not recklessness.” The president urged young people to celebrate responsibly, highlighting the dangers associated with high-speed riding and driving during the festive period.

Mr. Mahama also announced that law enforcement agencies had been directed to take swift action against offenders to curb accidents. “In past years, we have witnessed needless fatalities due to reckless behavior on the roads, particularly around Ramadan,” he said. “I urge those engaging in such actions to stop immediately.”

The president reaffirmed his stance, making it clear that any violations would be met with firm consequences. “I have instructed the police to arrest offenders,” he warned.

In addition to road safety, Mahama called on Ghanaians to embrace the spirit of generosity and compassion during Eid, encouraging citizens to support vulnerable members of the community. “As we celebrate the end of Ramadan, let us not forget those in need. This is a time for reflection, kindness, and support,” he said.

President Mahama further urged religious and community leaders to set an example of social responsibility. “The true essence of Eid is in uplifting one another. Let us use this time to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and ensure no one is left behind.”
