President John Dramani Mahama has called for greater collaboration between employers and workers, stressing the importance of mutual respect and understanding in driving Ghana’s development.

In a statement marking Workers’ Day on 1 May, Mr Mahama praised the contribution of Ghanaian workers and urged all stakeholders to work together to build what he described as a “more prosperous and equitable” nation.

“Let us all, employers and employees, commit to fostering a spirit of collaboration, understanding, and mutual respect,” he said. “Let us work together to create a more prosperous and equitable Ghana, where every citizen can contribute their talents and skills to national development.”

The former president, who is seeking re-election, described workers as the “engine” of Ghana’s economy and pledged to create an enabling environment that would allow them to thrive.

He also outlined plans to strengthen labour laws, enforce workplace safety standards, and promote social dialogue between employers and employees.

“My government recognises and deeply values the pivotal role of the Ghanaian worker in driving our national development agenda,” he said. “I am, therefore, committed to creating a supportive environment that allows you to thrive and help Reset Ghana.”

Mr Mahama’s message comes as workers across the country mark Labour Day with calls for improved working conditions and job security.
