President John Dramani Mahama has committed to completing the long-delayed Sewua Hospital by the end of this year, vowing to see through projects that were stalled during his successor’s tenure.
Speaking to the clergy in Kumasi on Sunday, Mr. Mahama assured the Asantehene, Otumfuo, that the hospital’s completion would help alleviate pressure on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, allowing critical rehabilitation work to continue there.
“I’ve assured Otumfuo that we’ll complete the Sewua Hospital this year,” Mahama said. “This will help decongest Komfo Anokye and allow us to focus on important work there.”
The president also revealed that he has been in talks with Euroget De-Invest S.A, the contractors for the Afari military hospital, and they have committed to resuming work swiftly to complete the project.
President Mahama went on to discuss other significant infrastructure projects, including the Suame Interchange and various roadworks, which were launched during his administration but lacked dedicated funding. He acknowledged the challenges in securing funding but promised to find ways to accelerate their completion, easing the daily struggles of Kumasi residents.
“We are looking for sources of funding to speed up the work on these projects and improve the conditions in Kumasi,” he said.
Addressing the stalled Kejetia Market Phase II project, which was impacted by the country’s debt exchange program, Mahama expressed optimism about its resumption. Following the conclusion of official negotiations with the creditor committee, he expects bilateral discussions with lenders to restart work on the crucial project.
“Now that we’ve concluded negotiations with the creditor committee, we can begin discussions with lenders to get Kumasi Market Phase II back on track,” he added.
