President John Dramani Mahama confirmed that his X (formerly Twitter) account has been restored after a cybersecurity breach on March 17, 2025. The account was hijacked and used to promote a dubious cryptocurrency, “Solana Africa.”

In a statement following the restoration, Mahama reassured his followers, stating:
“My team has restored my account, working with the X support team. Thank you for your enquiries and offers to assist.”

The breach underscores growing concerns over the vulnerability of social media accounts belonging to prominent public figures, as cyber threats continue to grow more sophisticated. Experts are now urging political leaders and organizations to strengthen their cybersecurity protocols, including implementing multi-factor authentication, conducting regular security audits, and establishing comprehensive emergency response plans to safeguard their digital identities.

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) issued a statement on March 18, acknowledging the breach and assuring the public that an investigation was underway. The CSA confirmed that it was working closely with X’s security team and other stakeholders to mitigate the impact of the hack and prevent future incidents.

This incident highlights the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures in an increasingly interconnected world.
