A 65-year-old Ghanaian man, Alhaji Ayaana Yakubu, who walked from Kumasi to Accra to attend President John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration, has been gifted a brand-new Renault car, an undisclosed sum of money, and shopping vouchers worth GH¢5,000.
The generous gesture was made possible by an anonymous philanthropist, who wished to recognise Alhaji Ayaana’s extraordinary act of patriotism and determination. The presentation took place in a ceremony hosted by renowned broadcaster and showbiz personality, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD).

In a video shared on social media, the visibly moved Alhaji Ayaana is seen receiving the car keys and stepping into his new vehicle, marking a heartfelt reward for his remarkable journey.
Alhaji Ayaana has long been celebrated for his symbolic acts of patriotism. His walk to Mahama’s inauguration is just the latest in a series of such efforts. In 1997, he gained national attention for walking long distances to celebrate the second-term inauguration of former President Jerry John Rawlings. Two years later, he organised a 16-kilometre peace and health walk in Tamale to advocate for unity and well-being.
KOD, who facilitated the handover, described the event as an honour to be part of and praised the anonymous donor for making it all possible. “This afternoon, I had the honour of presenting Mr. Yakubu with a brand-new Renault car, an undisclosed amount of money, and shopping vouchers worth GH¢5,000 from Nineteen57,” KOD wrote on Instagram, adding his thanks to the philanthropist behind the gesture.
