A 33-year-old mobile money vendor, Augustine Mensah, has been shot dead by unidentified assailants in Manso-Asamang, located in the Amansie West District of Ghana’s Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, February 26, 2025, after Mensah had been called by a customer for a transaction following his closing time. On his way home after attending to the customer, he was attacked and shot by unknown perpetrators.

A passerby quickly transported Mensah to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

This tragedy comes just two weeks after the fatal shooting of another mobile money vendor, Patricia Nimako, in the Kumasi Metropolis. Nimako, also in her thirties, was killed at her vending shop in Krofrom. Despite the family’s calls for justice, no arrests have been made in her case, and her funeral took place on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

The latest shooting has left the residents of Manso-Asamang in shock and mourning. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Stephen Agyei, a local opinion leader, confirmed that Mensah’s body has been taken to St. Martin’s Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.
