Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Nana Yaw Boakye, known as MOG, has advised fellow gospel artistes to focus on building meaningful relationships rather than solely pursuing financial rewards.
In an interview on Channel One TV’s Upside Down Show on Sunday, December 22, MOG emphasised the importance of relationships in the gospel music ministry. He stated that while significant resources are invested in music projects, the value of relationships often outweighs financial considerations.
“Money is good, but I believe that what brings in good money is a relationship,” he explained. “If you manage relationships well, you can gain far more than just what you can charge for a performance.”
MOG shared how strong connections can lead to unexpected opportunities, noting that fostering genuine relationships enables easier collaborations and encourages generosity. He explained, “When I have a relationship with someone, giving freely doesn’t hurt because of the bond we share.”
He also acknowledged that some artistes request payment upfront for performances, understanding that their past experiences may have shaped this approach. However, he pointed out that for him, it is the quality of relationships that influences his decisions about future engagements. “It’s all about how you relate with people,” he added. “That’s what will determine whether I accept an invitation next time.”
