MTN Ghana has moved to reassure customers that their Mobile Money (MoMo) accounts remain secure, following a cybersecurity breach involving its parent company, MTN Group.

In a message sent directly to users, the telecommunications giant said: “MTN MoMo remains safe and secure. Disregard any claims about system compromise. No customer wallet has been affected. Your funds are safe.”

The company urged customers to remain vigilant and avoid sharing personal security information such as PINs or One-Time Passwords (OTPs), and to be cautious of suspicious links or unsolicited calls.

MTN Group confirmed the incident last week, revealing that preliminary investigations suggest the data of around 5,700 MTN Ghana customers may have been affected. A full investigation is currently underway to determine the scope of the breach.

MTN has enlisted the support of cybersecurity experts to conduct a forensic audit as part of its response to the incident. The move is part of the company’s broader efforts to ensure system integrity and protect customer data.

While no MoMo wallets have been compromised, MTN Ghana says it is taking the matter seriously and is working to reinforce its security infrastructure to prevent future incidents.
