Former Executive Director of Ghana’s National Service Scheme (NSS), Mustapha Ussif, has firmly denied any wrongdoing during his tenure at the organisation, following his implication in an alleged scandal.

The Attorney-General, Dominic Ayine, on Friday named Mr Ussif among a dozen individuals who, he said, will face prosecution over their roles in a purported mismanagement scandal at the NSS.

In a statement issued shortly after the announcement, Mr Ussif, who also served as Sports Minister and is currently the Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori, rejected the accusations and insisted he is prepared to defend his actions in court.

“My attention has been drawn to the Attorney-General’s press conference held on June 13, 2025. I wish to categorically deny any alleged wrongdoing,” Mr Ussif said.

He added that he welcomed the opportunity to account for his time in office and said he was prepared to appear before “a court of competent jurisdiction”.

Mr Ussif led the NSS from February 2017 to January 2021.

“It is my fervent belief that once you hold public office, you should at all material times, and at whatever cost, be ready, willing, and able to account for your stewardship,” he stated.

He called on his supporters, constituents, and members of the New Patriotic Party to remain calm, assuring them that he had served “with diligence and honesty” throughout his time in public service.
