Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), has condemned an investigative report by The Fourth Estate on the National Service Authority (NSA) scandal, calling it “shoddy work” and “lazy journalism.”
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on February 18, Mr.Boakye criticised the report for failing to properly verify the information before publication. He argued that the investigation overlooked key details in the NSA’s posting processes, leading to misleading conclusions.
Mr. Boakye explained that the NSA manages multiple types of national service postings throughout the year, including general postings for university graduates, postings for teachers, and two cohorts for nurses. He pointed out that the report did not take into account the different categories of postings when it cited figures for the number of people posted.
“For example, in 2018, we announced that 85,000 people were posted under the general service, but the report failed to differentiate between this and the other types of postings,” Boakye said. “They took this number and compared it with the overall sum of all postings submitted to Parliament, which led to false claims about ‘ghost names.'”
Mr. Boakye further clarified that the NSA submits a comprehensive summary of all postings, including the general, teachers, and two nursing cohorts, to Parliament, which the report allegedly misinterpreted.
The NPP official’s criticism highlights ongoing concerns over the accuracy of reporting on the NSA scandal and the integrity of journalistic investigations into government institutions.
