NCCE Condemns Wontumi FM Presenter for False Election Claims

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has strongly criticized Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a presenter at Wontumi FM in Kumasi, for spreading false information about the upcoming presidential elections.

Oheneba Nana Asiedu was arrested on Saturday, November 23, for allegedly publishing false news, an offence under Section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

In a viral video, the presenter falsely claimed that due to the large number of presidential candidates, voting would be held on two separate dates. He alleged that voters would cast their ballots for candidates numbered 1 to 7 on December 7, with the remaining aspirants to be voted for on another date.

In a statement signed by its chairperson, Kathleen Addy, the NCCE condemned the broadcast, describing the claims as “false, misleading, and a dangerous form of disinformation.” The commission warned that such actions could confuse voters and undermine public trust in the electoral process.

The NCCE reaffirmed that the general elections are scheduled to take place nationwide on Saturday, December 7, 2024, as planned.
