The Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Akatsi North, Abraham Ahiabu, has denied reports claiming his arrest and investigation over the possession of dummy ballot papers.
On December 5, 2024, the Ghana Immigration Service announced the interception of three booklets of dummy ballot papers, each containing 1,000 sheets, at Xevi, an unapproved route in the Ave Havi area. The materials were reportedly being transported to Togo.
The statement further indicated that Mr Ahiabu had been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further questioning, while the seized materials were sent to the Akatsi North District Electoral Commission office for verification.
In response, Mr Ahiabu confirmed that he had been questioned by the police but stressed that he was not under investigation for any criminal activity. He described the Immigration Service’s statement as part of an effort to justify the ongoing border closures in the Volta region ahead of the December 7 elections.
