The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) delay in announcing the results of Saturday’s general elections, warning that the prolonged wait is escalating tensions and fueling violence in parts of the country.

Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, December 8, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia called on the EC to expedite the declaration of results to prevent further unrest.

Asiedu Nketia, also known as “General Mosquito,” said that both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had completed their own collation of results, and questioned why the EC had not yet fulfilled its duty as the official body to announce the outcomes.

He warned that the delay was creating a dangerous vacuum, heightening anxiety, misinformation, and unrest, particularly among NDC supporters. “The youth, frustrated by the wait, are starting to react, and this is a worrying sign,” Asiedu Nketia said. He reiterated that the EC’s prompt announcement was vital to ensuring peace and stability.
