NDC Urges Ghanaians to Hold NPP MPs Accountable for Financial Loss After Parliament Walkout

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, leader of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in Parliament, has called on Ghanaians to penalise New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs at the ballot box, following their absence from a critical parliamentary session on Thursday, November 7.

The session, recalled at the NPP’s request to discuss urgent national issues, was adjourned indefinitely by Speaker Alban Bagbin due to insufficient attendance. The absence of the NPP MPs prevented Parliament from achieving the quorum needed to proceed.

Speaking at a press conference after the adjournment, Dr Forson criticised the NPP members for what he described as a “waste” of public funds. According to him, the session required substantial taxpayer funding to cover travel and operational expenses, only to be disrupted by the NPP MPs’ no-show.

“This incident reflects a lack of responsible leadership,” Dr Forson said. “It has caused financial loss to the state, and I urge Ghanaians to remember this when voting.”

Dr Forson condemned the NPP MPs’ actions, calling it a “disregard for parliamentary Standing Orders” and an example of “poor governance.” He urged voters to seek leaders who respect public resources and support the smooth operation of Parliament.

He went on to address citizens directly, “Let no one deceive you that the NDC is here to obstruct government business, because there is no business to disrupt. We’re ready for the elections to vote out this administration that has let down the people of Ghana.”

The incident marks another flashpoint in the lead-up to the next elections, with both sides blaming each other for failures in governance.
