NDC Urges Supporters to Monitor Collation Centres Amid Election Tension

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged its supporters to closely monitor the collation of election results at designated centres, while complying with electoral guidelines.

In a statement on December 7, NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi emphasised that the public has a legal right to observe the sorting and counting of ballot papers during the election process.

“The collation process is a public exercise and should not be conducted in secrecy,” Gyamfi said. He added that while political party agents are present at polling stations, the general public is also permitted to observe the sorting and counting of votes from at least 100 meters away.

Gyamfi called on the Electoral Commission (EC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to welcome public scrutiny. “If the NPP and the EC have nothing to hide, they should encourage the public to observe the process,” he stated.

The NDC dismissed recent complaints from the NPP, urging its supporters to remain vigilant and report any irregularities to the relevant authorities. “We have always followed this practice since 1992, and no one, including the EC or the outgoing NPP government, can change that,” Gyamfi added.

The call comes amid growing concerns about transparency in the collation process, as the country approaches the final stages of the election.
