Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been declared the winner of the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat, defeating the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Okunor secured 50,886 votes, representing 52.7% of the vote, while Koomson garnered 45,638 votes, or 47.3%. The announcement came after hours of confusion at the collation centre.

Okunor’s victory ends the NPP’s long hold on the seat, which it had held since 2012, and marks the end of Koomson’s decade-long tenure as MP for the constituency.
