Ghana’s newest Supreme Court justices vowed Thursday to uphold the principles of fairness and impartiality, marking their swearing-in with a pledge to dispense justice without bias and a note of appreciation for the families who supported their ascent.
Speaking on behalf of the seven newly appointed justices, Justice Senyo Dzamefe assured citizens that the highest court remains committed to the rule of law. “To the people of Ghana, we promise to dispense justice to all manner of persons—without fear, favour, ill will, or affection,” he said during the ceremony, which was presided over by President John Dramani Mahama.
Justice Dzamefe acknowledged the personal sacrifices and long road many of the appointees had traveled to reach the bench. He paid tribute to the families—especially spouses and children—who stood by them through years of professional advancement and uncertainty.
“For some of us, the road to this moment has been exceptionally long,” he said. “But our families never gave up on us. They continued to pray, support, and encourage us, believing that this day would come.”
He offered a personal anecdote, recalling questions from his children during past appointments. “Daddy, how come your name hasn’t been on the list?” they would ask. “Today,” he added with quiet satisfaction, “that question is over.”
Justice Dzamefe concluded with a prayer for divine guidance as the new justices take on their constitutional responsibilities. “May God bless our homeland Ghana and bless us all,” he said.
