The Director of Ghana’s National Investigation Bureau (NIB), Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, has voluntarily returned a parcel of state land that was illegally acquired.

The move was confirmed by private lawyer Martin Kpebu, who told Channel One News that Quaicoe contacted Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the chairman of the government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), to announce his decision.

The land, located in the agri-mechanisation area near El Wak Stadium in Accra, was the subject of a controversial rezoning process, which Kpebu described as flawed and unlawful. He noted that the rezoning had been carried out without the proper procedures, including a lack of parliamentary approval, rendering the land acquisition invalid.

“The rezoning process was not done in accordance with the law, and as a result, those who acquired the land did so improperly,” Kpebu said.

ORAL, established by President John Dramani Mahama in December 2024, is focused on recovering state assets unlawfully acquired by individuals, particularly during previous administrations. The five-member team, led by Ablakwa, aims to restore accountability and public trust in the management of state resources.
