Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority Board, has been released from the custody of Ghana’s National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). His detention came amid an investigation into financial matters related to his tenure at the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).

Mr.Ameyaw-Akumfi’s lawyer, Ken Kuranchie, confirmed the release, explaining that the former official was approached by a group of men in three pickup trucks early Sunday morning.

They informed him he was needed for questioning and, without resistance, he voluntarily accompanied them to the NIB offices in Accra.

The investigation focuses on certain financial approvals Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi made while serving as board chairman at GIIF, and the NIB is scrutinizing his involvement in these decisions.
