A ten-day injunction has been granted by the National Labour Commission (NLC) to halt the ongoing strike by senior staff and workers’ unions of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), following a court application.

The injunction, granted by the High Court on Wednesday, November 13, stops further industrial action initiated on Tuesday, November 12, by the Senior Staff Association of the GHA and the Ghana Highway Workers Union (CBMWU-TUC).

The court, after reviewing arguments from Ofosu Amoah, counsel for the NLC’s Executive Secretary, ordered the unions to cease their strike immediately.

“It is hereby ordered that the Respondents, whether by their executives, officers, members, agents, servants, employees, or other persons, are restrained from further continuation of the industrial strike action commenced on November 12, 2024,” the court ruling stated.

The court also directed the association to comply with the NLC’s previous directives, issued on November 6, and to end the strike action without delay.

The injunction is in effect for ten days, with the NLC required to reapply should it seek an extension.

Workers at GHA’s headquarters, regional offices, and road maintenance units across the country joined the strike in protest against the implementation of the new National Roads Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1118). Union leaders are demanding a halt to the Act’s implementation and the revocation of appointments made under it, citing constitutional breaches.

“These appointments are void, as they contravene Article 195 of the 1992 Constitution,” said the association in a statement.
