Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that Friday, 8 November, will not be observed as a public holiday, despite being the date chosen for this year’s National Farmers’ Day celebrations.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Interior Minister Henry Quartey clarified that the formal holiday for Farmers’ Day remains scheduled for Friday, 6 December. On this date, the country will observe the annual statutory holiday in honour of its farmers and their contributions to the nation.

The Ministry’s announcement follows the Ministry of Food and Agriculture’s decision to hold the 40th National Farmers’ Day event in Accra on 8 November. President Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to attend, and for the first time, the event will forgo regional-level celebrations.

Instead, each region has been asked to select nominees for 10 regional award categories. These selected farmers are required to attend the event in Accra, where they will be recognised at an awards ceremony at the Alisa Hotel, North Ridge, beginning at 4 p.m.

During the ceremony, Regional Ministers will present awards to honourees from their respective regions.
