Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim in the Western Region, has lost his seat to Philip Fiifi Buckman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr. Armah, who currently serves as Deputy Minister for Works and Housing and has previously been Executive Secretary of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), garnered 13,317 votes. Buckman, a private legal practitioner, secured 15,927 votes.
An independent candidate received 1,835 votes, with 219 ballots rejected out of a total of 31,079 valid votes.
Fiifi Buckman, who had previously contested the seat unsuccessfully, first ran as an independent before joining the NDC. He previously defeated the incumbent NPP MP, Joe Mensah, in the NPP’s 2020 parliamentary primary before going on to secure the Kwesimintsim seat for the NPP in the general election with 24,759 votes.
Buckman is currently Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education and serves as a member of the House Committee.
The loss of the Kwesimintsim seat adds to the NDC’s gains in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, following the party’s victory in Sekondi.
