The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that its presidential primaries will take place on Saturday, 31 January 2026.

The date was confirmed following a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Tuesday, 17 June 2025.

Speaking at a press briefing, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, said the decision did not require any constitutional amendments and had been approved by the party’s National Council.

“This will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries,” he said, adding that the party remains committed to a transparent and credible electoral process.

The announcement sets the stage for a potentially competitive race as the party prepares to elect a new flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Interest is expected from several high-profile figures within the party, as well as possible new entrants hoping to lead the NPP into its next electoral battle.

Officials say nomination guidelines, campaign timelines, and a code of conduct for aspirants will be published in the coming weeks. The party has promised to uphold its democratic values throughout the process.
