NSMQ 2024: Mfantsipim School Defeats PRESEC to Secure Spot in Grand Finale

In a high-stakes semi-final at the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), Mfantsipim School emerged victorious over reigning champions, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), in a dramatic tie-breaker round. The close-fought contest saw Mfantsipim edge out PRESEC with a final score of 56 to 53, ending PRESEC’s quest for an eighth NSMQ title.

The intense match-up kept audiences on edge, as both schools delivered swift, accurate responses across the five-round competition. Mfantsipim maintained a narrow lead throughout, with PRESEC closely trailing. By the fourth round, PRESEC pulled ahead with 53 points to Mfantsipim’s 50, creating a nail-biting climax.

Osei Tutu Senior High School, the third competitor, managed 27 points by the end of the contest.

The final round pushed PRESEC and Mfantsipim to a tie, prompting a tie-breaker question. Mfantsipim, demonstrating quick reflexes and composure, delivered the correct answer, boosting their score to 56 and securing their place in the grand finale alongside Keta Senior High Technical School (KETA SHTS).

Mfantsipim, whose last NSMQ victory was in 2014, will now aim to reclaim the championship title. The team showcased exceptional knowledge and determination, rekindling hopes of a long-awaited win for their supporters.
