Bice Osei Kuffour, the former Managing Director of Ghana Post and widely known as Obour, has called on Communication Minister Sam George to exercise caution and due diligence in his decision to dismiss recently hired employees.

In a recent interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Obour defended the recruitment process, asserting that it adhered strictly to legal protocols and refuting claims that any new hires were made after the 2024 general elections. He emphasized that all recruitment procedures were meticulously documented and submitted to the government in response to requests for the database.

“The due processes were followed in the recruitment, and I am confident that, upon reviewing the documents, Minister George will reconsider his decision,” Obour stated, urging the minister to approach the matter with greater patience.

Sam George, on Tuesday, confirmed that he had authorized the termination of nearly 600 employees hired by the ministry and its agencies after the 2024 elections. The decision is part of an ongoing initiative to streamline operations across the ministry and its associated agencies, with further dismissals anticipated.

However, Obour cautioned that such a broad approach to staff reductions could undermine public trust, particularly in light of the Mahama administration’s campaign promises to create jobs. He also expressed his willingness to assist Minister George with any necessary documentation regarding the recruitment process.

As the debate unfolds, Obour’s remarks highlight the tensions between administrative efficiency and the political ramifications of workforce decisions, underscoring the delicate balance ministers must strike when making staffing changes.
