The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has condemned the demolition of the Fantasy Dome at the Trade Fair site, describing the action as “unfair” to its owner, Leslie Quaynor.

The venue, which had hosted several high-profile events, was dismantled in March 2024 to pave the way for redevelopment at the Trade Fair. Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on November 21, Mr Okraku-Mantey said there were no explicit instructions for such a drastic measure, suggesting that a more lenient approach could have been taken.

“I do not think leadership gave instructions for what happened. The structure was a prefab. They could have simply dismantled it, but I hear the people destroyed it. That was unfair. If it was meant to be done, it should have been done properly,” he stated.

The Deputy Minister clarified that the Trade Fair site falls outside the remit of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, and he could not comment on what sanctions, if any, had been applied to those responsible.

However, he revealed that prior to the demolition, he had engaged the owner of the Dome in discussions to explore alternative locations for the facility. He had proposed a potential site at the National Museum but noted that the Dome’s size rendered it unsuitable for that venue.

Mr Okraku-Mantey expressed disappointment over the incident, adding that actions like these undermine trust and accountability.
