President-elect John Dramani Mahama has dismissed allegations that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee is being used as a political tool for witch-hunting.

Speaking during a meeting with the Canadian High Commission in Ghana on Thursday, Mahama addressed concerns that the committee’s investigations could unfairly target members of the outgoing administration. He clarified that ORAL’s role is not to investigate individuals but to compile evidence of alleged corruption and misconduct for appropriate government institutions once his administration takes office.

“I think people are misunderstanding it,” Mahama said. “We are receiving information about corruption scandals and other issues, and we want a central point where all this evidence can be directed. ORAL is not investigating individuals, it is simply gathering evidence for the relevant government agencies.”

He also stressed that the committee operates without any financial resources, as it is working pro bono. Mahama emphasized that ORAL’s purpose is to promote accountability and transparency, not to target specific people.

“We have no brooms to fly at night,” he added, rejecting the idea that ORAL is intended for political retribution. He called on political parties and civil society groups to work together to strengthen efforts against corruption.
