Parliament has confirmed Dr. Edward Omane Boamah as the country’s Minister-Designate for Defence following a vote on the ninth report of the Appointments Committee.
The decision comes after the committee, in a unanimous vote, recommended Dr. Omane Boamah for the role. However, during the debate, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin raised concerns regarding the conduct of the committee clerk, alleging that some of Dr. Omane Boamah’s submissions were omitted from the report.
Speaker Alban Bagbin rebuked the criticism of the clerk, calling for the use of appropriate channels to address such issues.
In related developments, Parliament also approved the nominations of Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as Minister-Designate for Lands and Natural Resources, alongside three regional ministers-designate. The new regional appointees include Tia Ibrahim for the North East Region, Dr. Frank Amoakohene for the Ashanti Region, and Akamugri Atanga Donatus for the Upper East Region.
Their approvals, which followed rigorous vetting, now pave the way for the nominees to take up their new roles and lead development initiatives in their respective regions.
