Ghana’s Parliament is set to reconvene today, Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) for its first sitting since the pivotal December 7 general elections.

The session follows a formal announcement from the Speaker’s Office on December 11, confirming the venue for the meeting. Speaker Alban Bagbin had previously summoned Parliament to resume on December 2, 2024, highlighting the significance of the gathering in the wake of the country’s recent political developments.

The December 7 elections have notably reshaped Ghana’s political landscape. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerged with a parliamentary majority, while several prominent Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including Ursula Owusu-Ekulful, Henry Quartey, KT Hammond, and Andy Appiah Kubi, lost their seats, shifting the balance of power in the legislature.

In the presidential race, the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama defeated the NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, securing another term in office and further consolidating his party’s influence in the country’s political sphere.
