The National Peace Council (NPC) has called for due process as the ongoing collation of election results for three constituencies in the Eastern Region takes place at the Tesano Police Training School in Accra.
The constituencies—Akwatia, Nsawam Adoagyiri, and Fanteakwa—have experienced delays due to disruptions at previous collation centres. In response, the Electoral Commission (EC) moved the process first to the regional level and then to the national level, following reports of destruction and arson at other sites across the country.
The NPC confirmed that the decision to relocate the collation exercise to Tesano was made solely by the EC, with no involvement from political parties or the Ghana Police Service.
In a statement, the NPC urged political party representatives to use legal channels to address any concerns, stressing the importance of ensuring the safety of all those involved in this critical stage of the electoral process.
The Council also welcomed the EC’s decision to convene an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, following its call for dialogue. The meeting, which involves political parties and key stakeholders, is aimed at resolving the ongoing impasse.
The NPC has also encouraged media outlets to continue broadcasting the collation process live, ensuring transparency and helping to maintain public trust in the electoral process.
Affirming its commitment to peacebuilding, the NPC reiterated its belief that dialogue and adherence to due process are essential for safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s elections and ensuring national peace.
