Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has clarified remarks he made about a visible scratch on his face after their game against Dutch side Feyernoord on Tuesday .
“I was caught off guard with a question at the end of a press conference last night about a scratch which had appeared on my face,” Guardiola explained. “I said that a sharp fingernail had accidentally caused this.”
His response, however, was interpreted by some as trivializing the serious issue of self-harm. Guardiola quickly addressed the misunderstanding, emphasizing, “My answer was in no way intended to make light of the very serious issue of self-harm.”
The clarification comes at a time of immense pressure for Guardiola, whose Manchester City side is in the midst of a six-game winless streak—a rare and unsettling run for the reigning Premier League champions. Fans and pundits alike have been closely scrutinizing the team’s form, with growing concerns over their ability to bounce back.
